ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES OF THE CENTRE

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Migration Studies (PGDMS),
  • Professional Master’s in Migration Studies (MMGS),
  • Master’s in Migration Studies (MSc.)
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Migration Studies (PhD)

Postgraduate Diploma in Migration Studies (PGDMS)

To be admitted for the PGD in Migration Studies, a candidate is expected to have:

I. First degree with a minimum of a Pass grade in any discipline from a recognised University;

or

II. HND with at least a minimum grade of Lower Credit in any discipline from a recognised institution;

In addition:

III. Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics (at least Pass), and any other three subjects at no more than two (2) sittings.

IV. Candidates must submit all credentials for verification and may be required to attend an admission interview (written/oral).

Professional Master’s in Migration Studies (MMGS)

To be admitted for the Professional Master’s in Migration Studies, a candidate is expected to have:

I. Five credits at ‘O’ level (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB), including English and a pass in Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings.

II. A first degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours (lower division) in Migration Studies or other related courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences and Health/ Medical Sciences from a recognised University or its equivalent.

III.  A University Degree Holder with a Third Class or Pass, or HND holder with Post Graduate Diploma in Migration Studies or other related PGD courses of not less than 3.0 points on a 5-point scale from a recognised university.

Master’s in Migration Studies (MSc.)

To be admitted for the Master’s (Msc.) in Migration Studies, a candidate is expected to have:

I. Five credits at ‘O’ level (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB), including English and a pass in Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings.

II. A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Honours (lower division) in Migration Studies or other related courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences and Health/ Medical Sciences from a recognised University or its equivalent.

III. A University Degree Holder with a Third Class or Pass, or HND holder with a Post Graduate Diploma in Migration Studies or other related PGD courses of not less than 3.0 points on a 5-point scale from a recognised university.

Doctor of Philosophy in Migration Studies (PhD)

To pursue a PhD in Migration Studies at the Centre of Excellence in Migration and Global Studies, National Open University of Nigeria, the candidate needs to meet the following criteria:

I. Educational Qualifications: At least a master’s degree in migration studies or any relevant field from Humanities, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Environmental Sciences, with a minimum final Grade Point Average of at least 3.5 over 5.0 from a recognised University.

II. Submission of a proposal addressing the area of intent, followed by an interview.

III. There will be an MPhil programme under the arrangement. The admission requirements for the MPhil programme include the MSc or Master of Arts (MA), with a graduating cumulative weighted average score below 60% but not less than 50%. In addition, the Master’s degree of the applicant must be from a cognate discipline.

  1. Applicants shall be required to attend a CEMGS admission interview (written and oral) as part of the admission requirements.
  2. Applicants shall submit a research proposal of about 2000 words in their area of interest.
